Thank You and Updates

Hello from Kentucky!

I (Serena) apologize for taking so long to send out thank you’s! I had everything ready, but was too busy in the beginning, and then it kept getting pushed off. Since so much time passed, I thought I might as well wait till the six-month mark so that we can give a significant update.

We have a 38’ 2001 Discovery RV – Class A – named Sturgis. We’ve been to eighteen states (some multiple times) and three other countries since the wedding. In the states, we mostly boondock in Walmart parking lots, but we stayed at an RV park while we were in California, and chilled in front of our parents’ houses when we’ve visited (Missouri and South Carolina).

it seems Isaac and I, the ones who paid for the wedding photos/are the features of the event, are being the least impatient about receiving them.

RV life can be an adventure sometimes.

One of the furnaces has gone out, I knocked the passenger mirror off TWICE, the front slide leaked all over the living room in the Louisville rain, the vacuum hose broke, the window shades fell apart, and I ran over a sign at the Cali RV park. Our horn would randomly go off when we’d turn (and it was LOUD) but now doesn’t work at all. The tow dolly got a flat while Isaac was driving the length of Cali (I was in KC) and got pulled over for that, the trailer lights not working, and my car not having a brake box (a Cali law I guess). He got off with a warning and some advice: “This is California, escape while you can.”

It’s always raining when we want to fill up on water. And something bad always seemed to happen when we went to get propane: a jar of grease sliding off the counter and splattering EVERYWHERE, my entire desk falling over breaking one of my monitors, going over a speed bump and the contents of our cabinets flying across the RV. It was definitely a process to prepare the RV for travel, but we have a system now.

Since our back furnace went out, our water pump froze one night while we were in SC. This affected how the hot water got to the shower, meaning we took cold showers for a while… Isaac tried different things, and finally wound up replacing the entire pump about a week ago and we now have hot water! We had someone come look at the furnace to get that repaired. I fixed the vacuum and shades, he fixed the leaky slide and installed a camera on the passenger side till we replace the mirror. The low air sensor is messed up so it constantly blares a mind-numbing buzzing sound while we drive, so we unplugged it and drive in peace… until the jack sensor started telling us our jacks were down while we were driving (they weren’t) with an incessant beeping, so we unplug that too. My monitors are now mounted so they can’t fall. And the people at the RV park thought it was funny that I knocked over their sign.

We’re not one of those hipster couples that completely remodel their vintage trailer, but we’ve definitely had to make improvements (like replacing a couch with a desk so I have somewhere to work) and have added little touches of personality to make it our own. Sometimes I go out to buy a necessity and come back with another sheep or pillow.

All in all, things are well. There are ups and downs, but they seem to work out fine in the end.

Thank you for coming to our wedding and/or giving us help, gifts, and support!

We truly appreciate it and it wouldn’t have been the same without you! We hope this letter finds you well.

Feel free to message us! No snail mail yet, tho.

Bye!
