Even before Isaac and I departed on our maiden voyage in the 38′ RV, Sturgis, we were asked a plethora of questions, and often the same ones repeatedly. It’s understandable though! Our lifestyle is not a popular one, therefore is a mystery to many. Check out this q&a to see if your query is answered, or comment one of your own!
Q: Does your RV have a name?
A: Yes! His name is “Sturgis.”
Q: How’s married life?
A: Marriage is a dream come true – a fairy tale. We have our happily ever after. So perfect.
JK. Seriously though, what kind of question is that? What do you REALLY want to know?
Serena: “People ask me how married life is ALL THE TIME. I mean, my entire life changed, I didn’t just get married.”
Isaac: “I’m literally living in a van and you’re asking me about marriage??”
Q: How’s RV life?
A: Just like your life except we move around a lot in a one-bedroom apartment on wheels.
Isaac: “I think people expect us to amaze them with our lives. But we just live in an RV.”
Q: When are you having more kids?
JK, people know better than to ask that question.
Q: Where do you live?
A: Wherever we park.
Q: Where do you park?
A: Walmart parking lots, occasionally. RV parks when the snowbirds haven’t taken them over. Pilot/Flying J spaces. We have a small plot of land west of Phoenix. We were at a park in East Washington for a while. When we’re visiting fam, we park in front of their house.
Q: Do you stay in your RV when visiting your families, or inside their house with them?
A: Why would we stay in their house when we have a house of our own right in the driveway?
Q: You don’t stay in your family’s house? Don’t you get tired of the RV??
A: Do you get tired of your house — of having your own space? Or would you prefer to live out of a suitcase?
Q: To Serena, You stay in the RV all by yourself when Isaac travels?
A: Serena: “I’m a big girl, I can handle it.”
Q: How is living in an RV compared to living in a house?
A: There are pros and cons to both. Maybe we’ll have a chance to elaborate more in the future.
Q: Do you have a mailing address?
A: We got a box at a UPS Store in Buckeye, AZ but it expires in June. Email me if you want our current mailing address. Otherwise, Isaac’s domicile is his parents’ house in SC, and Serena’s is her parents’ in MO.
Q: To Serena, You drive the RV?!
A: Serena: “Yes, me having a female reproductive system does not hinder me from using my limbs to control a vehicle.”
Q: Where are you going next?A: (04/1/2018) Probably Michigan, could stay in Louisville. Supposed to be Arizona, but that timeline is sporadic. It’s all up in the air.A: (05/17/2019) Well, Isaac needs to be in Chicago, San Leandro, and Louisville at some point. Serena needs to be in South Carolina in June, and then we’re all going to Michigan in July. Serena’s bff wants her to visit Washington for a roadtrip in August. After that, we need to go back Arizona for the summer/fall. So to answer that question: everywhere.A: (4/1/2020) Generally, probably East: Kentucky, South Carolina, Delaware. We’ll have to see how the pandemic affects Isaac’s work. Isaac would also like to visit Arizona to check on the land.A: (5/10/2020) Most likely Kansas City to get the RV worked on (if we can make it) and I need to renew my license, then to South Carolina. Isaac also needs to renew his license and he hasn’t seen some of his siblings in a while.A: (5/25/2022) Either Denver or Seattle, maybe both? Possibly South Dakota. No firm plan yet. This didn’t happen hahaha
A: (4/20/2023) For now we’re staying put. I’d say if we do go anywhere, it will be to visit family in Missouri and Kansas City. Going back to Delaware is probably certain since the RV is there.
